Strictly Come Dancing’s Kai Widdrington shares update on his new dance partner as AJ Odudu is applauded for his response

Strictly Come Dancing’s Kai Widdrington has shared an update as he’s stuck in rehearsals with his new dance partner.

It was announced last week that the professional dancer would perform with EastEnders star Maisie Smith on the BBC Dance Competition Tour.

Maisie, who danced with Gorka Marquez during the 2020 series, will hit the road in place of Kai’s 2021 series partner AJ Odudu.

AJ had to pull out of the Strictly Live Tour, which kicks off January 20 in Birmingham before heading to Manchester at the end of the month, due to the same injury that saw her pull out of last month’s final.

The TV presenter reached the end of the 2021 competition but had to pull out at the last minute after tearing a ligament in her foot, leaving Rose Ayling-Ellis and John Whaite to battle it out for the Glitterball Trophy.

It was hoped that she would return to the tour – and perform the dance she was unable to show in the finale – but she is still unable to dance.

But the show must go on and Maisie has stepped into the role alongside Kai and this pair are now hard at work as the Strictly juggernaut prepares to hit the road.

Taking to Instagram, Kai shared a mirror selfie alongside Maisie, who was sporting an oversized yellow puffer jacket.

“Rehearsals for the @strictlycomedancinglive tour are going well @maisiesmithofficial,” the professional Strictly dancer shared along with the snap.

Maisie was among the first to respond, writing, “Absolute scenes,” before adding, “Ps no you can’t have my coat.”

AJ also continued to show his support.

“Go team,” she simply shared.

And fans were quick to respond.

“You really are class personified. You must be heartbroken that you can’t tour, but you’re Kai’s biggest cheerleader. What an amazing person you are,” said @mil_lie_26.

AJ is still recovering from his injury

@jess3treats replied: “@ajodudu [heart emojis]. I mean…we really don’t deserve you.”

“The @ajodudu tour definitely won’t be the same without you Aj, but your constant support for Kai and all your friends is honestly so admirable,” @lovedbyyouuu wrote.

@alex.louca.5 added: “@ajodudu you really are absolutely pure class!!! I’m sure you’re devastated not to do the live tour with Kai, after all it wasn’t supposed to happen finish this way!!! Hope you are healing well.”
