Twenty artists will take part in the sculpture symposium in Riyadh

RIYADH: Saudi city dwellers are being offered the opportunity to reconnect with nature by immersing themselves in the world of plants.

The opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of life in Riyadh has been offered at a flower plantation just a 40 minute drive from the center of the capital.

The Maalim travel agency – which organizes specialized trips to destinations throughout the Kingdom – organizes trips to a farm in Al-Muzahimiyah where visitors can experience floriculture, learn how to plant and grow all kinds of flowers .

In addition to offering cultural, agricultural and tourist trips, the travel agency plans to introduce factory tours to help promote and support Saudi businesses and products.

The popular Floriculture Experience has been running every Friday and Saturday since August for groups of 18-20 people or private parties and trips will end at the end of January.

Hessah Alajaji, Founder of Maalim Agency, said, “Citizens and visitors to Saudi Arabia have never heard of this huge flower farm in Saudi Arabia. Yet, it was created in 1991 and used to export products internationally. But due to high demand in the Kingdom, it became distributed locally.

“We decided to design this experience to showcase the beauty of floriculture in the Najd desert.

STRONG POINTS

• The tour is suitable for families, couples, groups of friends and individuals and begins with a short optional bike ride past the greenhouses and wells of the farm.

• A guide then leads a walking tour of the indoor plantation through up to six greenhouses where visitors can watch farmers cultivate their crops and learn about watering and cultivation methods.

“We look for opportunities and design experiences in different places in the Kingdom for everyone to enjoy. We care about preserving nature and culture and we put a lot of effort to protect the authenticity of places and adapt the experiences accordingly.

“If you told me there would be a place in Riyadh that has a unique flower plantation, I wouldn’t believe it,” she added.
